How does The Travelling Tom make money?

I am an independent blogger and I believe it is important to be transparent about how my blog makes money. All content on TheTravellingTom is free, but there are a few ways I make money from the site.

The primary way I make an income from the site is through affiliate links. These links allow me to earn a small commission if you decide to make a purchase at a 3rd party website. For example, when I link to the Hostelworld booking site, this is usually an affiliate link. If you follow one of these links and make a booking, Hostelworld will give me a percentage of what you pay, which usually equates to a few dollars. In no way does this entail any extra costs for you.

I link to a number of different products and services, which are ones that I have either used or am comfortable recommending. Currently, I use the following affiliate programs: Hostelworld, Amazon, Booking.com, Agoda, World Nomads travel insurance, Hotelscombined.com, Rentalcars.com and GetYourGuide.

I am required to put this disclosure on my website per Amazon’s guidelines. “I am a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for me to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.”
